Nostalgia

Llevo en mi corazón la triste huella
de la eterna nostalgia sideral
y en los dormidos rayos de una estrella
de noche subo a donde Dios está.

Alguien me aguarda con amor profundo
en un país distante que soñé,
y en medio a las tristezas de este mundo
a veces me pregunto cuando iré...

Anémona sin fuerzas que consume
el viento de una tarde tropical,
eso es mi corazón: flor sin perfume
que poco a poco concluyendo va!

Sé que la dicha, mariposa errante,
me presto sus caricias una vez,
y que en mi alma triste, al breve instante,
helada y mustia se encontró después...

Yo persigo su huella con cariño
la busco por doquiera con afán
y a mi piadosa adoración de niño
se que pronto, muy pronto volverá.

Triste con mi pesar la aguardo un día,
y cuando vuelva a acariciar mi sien,
donde caiga mi alma muda y fría
la ansiada dicha se caerá también!...

Nostalgia

I carry in my heart the sad trace
of the eternal nostalgia of the stars
and in the sleeping rays of a star
I rise in the night to where God is.

Somebody awaits me with deep love
in a far away land that I dreamt,
and in the middle of the sadness of this world
I sometimes wonder when I'll go...

Anemone without strength that's being flogged
by the wind of a tropical afternoon,
that's my heart: flower without parfume
that closes bit by bit!

I know that the happiness, wandering butterfly,
borrowed his caress to me once,
and that my sad soul, in a short moment,
contains coldness and sombreness afterwards...

I follow his trace with affection
passioned I look for him everywhere
and in my devoted childlike adoration
I know that he'll soon, real soon return.

Sad and tormented I'll expect him one day,
and when he returns to fondle my temple,
my mute and cold soul will alleviate
but the yearning search for happiness will disappear too!...
